Church Office Building

Took another lunch and this time found a good angle to paint the church office building. I work up on the 27th floor which is basically near the top above the observation deck. From this angle you couldn't even see the office windows. Spring was still out and it was a beautiful day. That night is snowed, sleeted hailed and rained amongst fierce winds as me and my family tried braving a Salt Lake Bees baseball game. We lasted until the beginning of the 5th inning and it was too wet and cold for us to stay. Luckily, I got off this sketch before that weather rolled in.

Window

In trying to find a good angle to sketch the skyscraper I work in, I came across this window on the east side of the Brigham Young mansion in downtown Salt Lake City. I likes how it stuck up above the rest of the house and was framed by these gnarly branches that grew from the tree in front. After I was finished painting it I noticed how bland and white the building was, yet my painting made it seem a lot more colorful than was realistic. I need more practice to get my mixing techniques down.

Blossoms

This was my first foray into sketching on the go. This was inspired by the blossoms I saw coming out all around me, spring is in the air. That is until it snowed a few more times the beginning of april. I drew this branch while I was riding the Trax streetcar to and from work. Because there is now actual point of reference, this could be whatever tree you would like it to be. I prefer to think it was inspired by all the time I spent in Washington DC when the cherry Blossoms were blooming. One of the coolest natural seasonal changes I have ever seen.
